Sick Stunts In Red Dead Redemption II

Rockstar is known for making bombastic games in realistic settings, but for Red Dead Redemption II, the developer took a step back to deliver something a little more contemplative about the nature of the old west, the criminal lifestyle, and the relationship that forms in the middle of an adopted family. But that doesn't mean there isn't room to pull off some SICK. ASS. STUNTS. Join Leo Vader, Suriel Vazquez, and me as we go on a lasso rampage, jump assorted trains, and generally get into trouble. And let us know in the comments if you want us to follow up with more Red Dead Sick Stunts! There is certainly more we can do in this game.

For more Sick Stunts videos, head here for Spider-Man, here for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode, here to watch us play with Zelda: Breath of the Wild's motorcycle, here to watch us push Wander and Agro to their limits in Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4, here for a live Sick Stunts video in Far Cry 5, and here for some Sea of Thieves shenanigans.

Fans Are Already Editing Smash Bros. Trailers To Crossover With Infinity War

Today, Nintendo murdered every character in their catalog, except Kirby. It was actually a pretty cool trailer, and Captain Falcon is a huge coward. The cinematic trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's World of Light single-player mode bears more than a few similarities to the Avengers movie released earlier this year, Infinity War, which is not, like, super shocking. You can only really raise the ceilings on epic crossovers so much without them all bearing a resemblance.

Fans definitely took notice, however, and there's already edits pairing the two properties, or ur-properties, together. Check out this video, which cheats a little by using the Robin/Lucina trailer from Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U in it, as one example.

There have also been reactions on Twitter comparing the two.

Thanos comes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate... but won't take part in the fight. He just thinks the roster is overpopulated and will randomly vanish half of it!

It: Chapter Two Gets A Release Date

The second chapter of Stephen King’s nightmare-inducing book adaptation has gotten a release date. Coming to a sewer near you, Pennywise the Clown will be returning to the big screen on September 6.

https://twitter.com/ITMovieOfficial/status/1057664270802898944

Following the story originally penned by Stephen King, the film picks up 27 years after the events of the first movie when the evil entity known as Pennywise the Clown is set to return. At this point all the kids in the Losers Club have grown up and must once again face their worst nightmares.

The cast has long since been announced with big-name actors like James McAvoy, Bill Hader and Jessica Chastain taking on the roles of the now-adult children from the first movie. Once again, Bill Skarsgard will resume his role as the infamous clown and the director of the first film, Andy Muschietti is still directing.

With the first film being a critical success and breaking the box office record for highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated film, it'll be interesting to see how the horrific sequel stacks up. Thus far, no official trailer has been released.

Junichi Masuda Says He Might Step Down From Directing Pokémon Games Soon

Pokémon Let's Go is coming fairly soon, launching later month on Switch and leaning heavily into collaboration with mobile title Pokémon Go, but it appears it might be the momentous for other reasons, as well. In an interview on the official Pokémon website, Junichi Masuda, who has been either assistant director or director on every mainline Pokémon game since Gold and Silver until Sun and Moon, stated that he might be done directing the mainline games.

Masuda was asked about working on a Switch game and the ways it ties into Pokémon Go. He answered talking about how familiar he was with Go and how working on the Switch let them experiment with new things like the Pokéball controller.

"For example, developing the Pokéball Plus and working with Bluetooth to facilitate the connection with Pokémon Go were both very interesting things that I had a chance to work on as the director this time," Masuda said. "But at the same time, it's important to have the younger generation at Game Freak take over the development of Pokémon as a series. I do believe this will probably be, in terms of the main Pokémon RPGs, the last time that I work as the director."

It is possible that Masuda might just be thinking wistfully, or he could be planning to merely oversee the projects, but it does suggest the biggest change in the creative hierarchy of the game's staff in nearly 20 years. That could put Sun & Moon's director, Kazumasa Iwao, as the most likely person to follow in Masuda's footsteps.

Pokémon Let's Go releases in Eevee and Pikachu variations on the Nintendo Switch on November 16.

The Quiet Man Gets Sound Update Next Week

You can download and play Square Enix's The Quiet Man right now, a bizarre half-FMV, half-beat 'em up downloadable game from Prey developers Human Head. As you play the game, you perceive it as the deaf protagonist would, unable to hear what other people in the game are saying, forcing you to interpret the story as you see fit. In a week, however, you won't need to interpret at all, as an update that allows you to play the game with sound comes along.

Dubbed The Quiet Man ~Answered~, which is the last time I will ever write it like that, the update adds sound to the game and lets you understand dialogue. The game's main theme is written and performed by artist Imogen Heap, so I assume that will be listenable in the main game before the sound patch.

The Quiet Man is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC. Square Enix brags that the game is a single-sitting experience, so you can play it now and then play it again next week.

Nintendo Plumber's Namesake Mario Segale Passes Away At 84

It's a rare true tale that's well known to people who like bandying about video game trivia, which can so often be steeped in apocrypha. The story goes that, when Shigieru Miyamoto first made Donkey Kong, he gave the human characters, the protagonist and the damsel in distress, generic names of Jumpman and Lady. When it was time to sell the arcade machine in the west, Nintendo of America reasoned that the game would sell better with named characters, and gave the mustached hero the name Mario, after the company's landlord.

In different tellings, Mario Segale busted into the NOA offices demanding rent, with the staff promising to name a game character after the landlord to mollify him. In other accounts, he was merely the name they most recently heard and seemed like a good fit. That character, the fictional Mario, is now one of the world's most recognized mascots, an enduring legacy for a man who was not always looking for it.

Segale had often ducked the association with the famous plumber, thinking it damaged his reputation as a real estate developer. In 1993, Segale was questioned about the name by the Seattle Times, and succinctly answered "You might say I'm still waiting for my royalty checks."

For Nintendo's part, it was not until 2015 that the company officially acknowledged Segale as Mario's namesake, with Miyamoto nodding to the question in a Nintendo video.

Our thoughts and condolences go with Mario Segale's family and loved ones.

For The First Time, Goku Joins The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

I have vivid memories of watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade as a kid, plopping in front of the TV to recognize characters like Bart Simpson and Snoopy. As a consequence, I would get bored when I saw things that were not recognizable cartoon characters, but thankfully TOEI and Funimation are ensuring that there's one more reason not to turn off the TV in boredom. This year, Goku comes to the parade.

Maybe not the Goku news some fans wanted today, but it does mark the first time the Japanese anime hero has appeared in the annual event. He'll be making his appearance in his Super Saiyan Blue form, or Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan for those who want to use the full name. Funimation also put up a video of the float being designed.

The next Dragon Ball movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, releases in North American theaters in January. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is on, well, Thanksgiving.

Watch Costume Quest Cartoon's Main Title Sequence

Frederator Studios, creators of Adventure Time, are getting ready to premiere their cartoon version of Costume Quest in 2019. To give us a taste of their vision for Double Fine’s game about kids’ Halloween antics, they’ve unveiled the show’s main title sequence.

The video quickly introduces the heroes, four ordinary-looking children that gain extraordinary powers after donning some quirky costumes. Keeping with the 2010 game’s Halloween inspired theme, the children face down a horde of enemies ranging from a scary Headless Horseman to a comical merman.

While the show was originally slated to release in this year, it has been moved back and will premiere as an Amazon Prime Video Original in 2019. If you’re interested in checking out one of the games before Costume Quest’s animated debut, you can read our review of Costume Quest 2 here.

Blizzard Teases Possibility Of Diablo Amiibo (Update: Revealed)
Diablo III: Eternal Collection

Update: Blizzard has gone ahead and confirmed the Treasure Goblin amiibo ahead of Blizzcon, stating that it will be available in December.

Where there are goblins, there is treasure to be found! Summon your own portal to untold riches with the exclusive #DiabloSwitch Loot Goblin amiibo – available Dec 2018! pic.twitter.com/jLe4vMmkcH

— Diablo (@Diablo) November 1, 2018

There's no word on the supposed other amiibo found in the datamining mentioned below, but it's probably a safe bet that they will be on their way.

The original story, posted on October 30 at 4:55 p.m. CT, follows:

With Diablo III coming to Switch, everyone has heard for months in what ways Blizzard was choosing to adapt the game to the Nintendo console's strengths. Aside from the various Zelda cosmetic items and the portability, the Switch version also has amiibo support, which the game shows the player how to do in a tutorial.

The tutorial screen shows players where to place the amiibo on the Joycon or the Pro Controller, but rather than use a generic amiibo like Mario, as is typically done, Diablo III shows a Treasure Goblin from the game on an amiibo stand. It definitely seems odd to bother with making unique art for the amiibo in the tutorial when they could have simply used an image of, say, Ganondorf.

A post on Reddit yesterday suggested that, after datamining, hints were discovered in the game that point to three unique Diablo amiibo, including the Treasure Goblin shown in the tutorial image. Considering the game releases the same day as the start of Blizzcon this Friday, it seems like a good place for the company to announce or reveal some Diablo-specific toys, as well.

Blizzard wouldn't be the first third party to get their own amiibo, either. The Solaire amiibo, tied to Dark Souls Remastered, came out alongside the Switch version of the game just a few weeks ago. Indie darling Shovel Knight was the first non-Smash Bros. amiibo to release. Should Blizzard announce Diablo ones as well, they would be within the embrace of precedent.

Diablo III releases on Nintendo Switch on November 2. You can read our review of the Switch version right here.

Yoshi Can Ride A Yoshi And Then Those Yoshis Can Ride Poochy In Yoshi's Crafted World

After Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, the live stream continued with gameplay of Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee and Yoshi's Crafted World. During the Yoshi's Crafted World gameplay, Nintendo showed a new mechanic where a Yoshi can ride another Yoshi in co-op, and then those Yoshi's can ride Poochy. It's insanity. You can see it in the screenshot above.

Spirits Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate As Helpful Boosts To The Main Fighters

During today's Nintendo Direct, Sora Ltd.'s Masahiro Sakurai revealed Spirits for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The mechanic replaces the collectible trophies from previous games, as Sakurai said the trophies wouldn't work for Ultimate and they were difficult to create.

According to Sakurai, many beloved characters from the game universes represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have lost their physical forms. All characters aside from the fighters on the roster have turned into Spirits. This Spirits can be collected by the player and assigned to Spirit slots to help fighters during Smash battles.

Spirits come in several classes. Standard Spirits are called "Novices," stronger Spirits are called "Advanced," even stronger Spirits are called "Aces," and the strongest Spirits in the game are called "Legendary." Each Spirit is also assigned as an Attack, Grab, or Shield type. These types work in a rock-paper-scissors manner where Attack beats Grab, Grab beats Shield, and Shield beats Attack. You'll want to assign a Spirit that has a type advantage over your opponent.

You can equip one Primary Spirit at a time. Primary Spirits enhance stats, adding its power to the fighter it's equipped to. Some Primary Spirits have additional slots, which can be used to equip Support Spirits. Support Spirits lend additional skills to the fighter, like higher jumps or auto-heal.

If one team's Spirits dramatically overpower another's, the rewards will be less for the more powerful team. This means players are incentivized to keep Spirit power ccompetitive.

To win Spirits, you take part in Spirit Battles. These special-condition battles pit you against characters on the fighter roster who either behave like or are assisted by the Spirit you're trying to win. For example, the Gordo battle has you fighting against King Dedede, but a barrage of Gordos rain from the sky. The Guts Man fight features a giant version of Mega Man relying heavily on his throws. The Owain battle features a cocky version of Chrom who taunts you before unleashes a powerful attack.

If you win the Spirit Battle, you must time one final shot without hitting a rotating shield that's protecting it. Mistime your final blow, and you damage the shield, but you'll have to complete the battle again. Thankfully, the shield damage carries over into the next attempt. If you hit the puppet fighter, you acquire the Spirit.

You can trade Spirits in by sending them back to the real world. While this means the Spirit is no longer in your inventory, you get cores for trading them in. You can use cores to summon new Spirits. In addition, you can train Spirits at the dojo, or send Spirits out to explore for treasure. Training and exploration missions continue even when you're playing other modes or not playing at all. You can also use Spirits to power up Amiibos. In addition, some Spirits have enhanced forms if you level them up.

The Spirits system is more than just a mechanic, as the single-player adventure mode, World of Light uses it as the driving force in its narrative. You can read more about World of Light here. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to hit Switch on December 7.

A Nine-Foot Lego D.Va Statue Will Be At BlizzCon

Overwatch Lego sets are on the way, and there's a good chance they'll be unveiled during this weekend's BlizzCon. The Lego Group today revealed a massive, nine-foot Lego D.Va statue that will be on display during the convention.

Constructed from 145,276 Lego pieces (43,853 of which are pink), this statue weighs 1,256 pounds, and took 731 hours to build. While this is just a statue, odds are it represents one of the sets fans will be able to purchase, and likely gives us our first-look at D.Va's minifigure design.

Let's hope D.VA and her mech are one of the smaller sets that releases, and she doesn't end up as a part of a larger battle set that will cost a small fortune. Let us know what you hope to see from Overwatch's Lego debut in the comments section below.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Receives DLC And Season Pass

As an announcement during today's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that the game will be getting DLC, with a season pass also available. This season pass requires players to buy it on faith, however, as the DLC has apparently not even been decided on yet.

Sakurai did clarify that the new characters coming in for download would not be returning characters, which makes sense as the game has the entire series roster so far, and will not be Echo fighters, his term for characters based closely on existing fighters. So every new DLC character will be an actual new character. He also broke down the pricing, which will be $5.99 per character "set" or $24.99 for all five sets.

There will also be Mii outfits and music from unrepresented games, specifically pointing at Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in his example, that will also come along with the season pass. The first DLC character, Piranha Plant, has been announced, but is unique in that he is a free download for early adopters, but will become paid later on.

The Universe Explodes And Everyone Dies In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's World Of Light Campaign

Nintendo closed out its Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct with the World of Light mode. Director Masahiro Sakurai teased that it's different than Brawl's Subspace Emissary mode, but it is the game's single-player campaign.

In a pre-rendered cutscene, Starfox was shown leading the charge on some ambiguous threat, but their heroics didn't matter because everything, and I mean literally everything, blew up. After that we saw Kirby landing on a strange planet, exploration with assorted characters on an overworld map, and a scene of Mario being photocopied with some strange goo to become an evil red-eyed version of himself.

The footage left the mode pretty ambiguous, but it looks like you will be exploring an overworld map fighting evil versions of Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster.

Piranha Plant Joins Super Smash Bros. As A Fighter After Launch

In today's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed a free DLC character coming to the game in an update in a few months. The character is the Piranha Plant, the oscillating obstacle from the Super Mario Bros. series, as a fighter in the game.

Piranha Plant moves around in a moving pipe, popping out and using the pipe to do attacks. His final Smash turns Petey Piranha into a Stand-like projection above him.

While Piranha Plant won't be ready for launch, the character will be coming as free DLC after release "in a few months." Digital owners will get him free, while people who buy the game at launch register the game with their Nintendo account. Players who purchase the game later will need to pick up the character as DLC.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on December 7 on Nintendo Switch.

Sunset Overdrive Is Likely Heading To PC

Insomniac Games finally hit the big time with the recent PS4 exclusive Spider-Man and it looks like Microsoft is trying to bring some of the developer's other work to the spotlight as well. Earlier this year, the Korean Ratings Board listed a PC port of the open-world Sunset Overdrive, one of the Xbox One's earliest and beloved exclusives.

The ESRB has also just added a listing for a PC port the game, lending more credence to the possibility of seeing it on PC sometime in the near future, likely under Microsoft's expanded Game Pass. Obviously none of this is an official announcement but this is about as solid a bet you can make that we'll see Sunset Overdrive on PC soon.

A Trio Super Smash Bros. Melee Modes Return In Ultimate

Among the various new modes announced during today's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Nintendo announced the return of three classic modes from Super Smash Bros. Melee

Century Smash marks the return of Melee's 100-Man Smash, and has you fighting against 100 fighters who are easily knocked out. All-Star Smash has you fighting against endless waves of every fighter in the game. Cruel Smash has you fighting against endless waves of much more difficult opponents who aren't knocked out as easily.

Nintendo also announced you'll be able to save replays of your matches and edit videos out of them, though there were no details about whether you'll be able to upload them online or otherwise publish them outside the game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on December 7.

Nintendo Details Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Assorted Online Modes

As part of this morning's Super Smash Bros.-focused Nintendo Direct, director Masahiro Sakurai detailed the game's assorted online modes.

The game can be played locally, wirelessly with up to four Switches. For online Sakurai recommends playing with a wired connection.

You will be able to set preferred rules and the game will match you to players who want to play with similar rules. It will prioritize geographic proximity over preferred rules compatibility.

You will have a Global Smash Power (GPS) score that will dictate your ranking. The number will change depending on how many people are playing Smash Bros. Ultimate.

If you're good enough you can participate in Elite Battles.

You can make a personalized Smash Tag that will be collected by those who defeat you. The more you win, the more Smash Tags you will have. You will also be able to set quick-select messages to send to people.

While you're waiting for online matches to start, you will be able to play some other modes and you will be alerted when a match is available.

The Battle Arena will let you set up a room to play with friends. You can watch people play, or place a token somewhere to make sure you're up next.

The Switch Online app will allow you voice chat and in 2019, a dedicated Smash app will let you share screenshots and video clips easily.

Street Fighter's Ken And Pokémon's Incineroar Confirmed As Smash Bros. Fighters

Two new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters have joined the roster. Ken from Street Fighter and Incineroar from Pokémon Sun and Moon, the evolved form of Litten, are fighters in the game.

Ken is an echo fighter of Ryu and like his counterpart, he has two final smashes and can use command inputs to accentuate his attacks. He's a little bit faster than Ryu, both in walking and kicking speed. His hadoken also looks different from Ryu's.

Incineroar is a Pokémon, but he plays like a wrestler. His throw attacks are extra strong for this reason. He also, as a wrestler, does a pose after pulling off successful attacks, but that animation can be cancelled. His third jump is tricky as it launches him up in the air, but also slams him downward so it's very easy to accidentally go off the edge.

For more on Smash Bros. Ultimate head here. You can also check out a gallery of screenshots for the new fighters below.

Ken, Ice Climbers, Isabelle, And More Smash Amiibos Coming Next Year

As part of its final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Nintendo has announced the arrival of seven new Amiibo, all of which will hit next year, after the game is out.

King K. Rool and Ice Climbers will release first, on February 15. After that, Daisy, Isabelle, Ken, Pichu, and Young Link will release sometime in 2019. No prices have been announced, but it's likely they'll meet the standard Amiibo price of $12.99, although some Amiibo (such as King K. Rool) may be priced higher.
